Abstract

This study aims to analyze innovations in extracurricular programs that support the mental and physical health of elementary school students using a literature review method. The research is grounded in increasing academic pressure, social changes, and high exposure to digital technology, all of which affect students’ psychological well-being and physical fitness. Although extracurricular activities have great potential as holistic development platforms, many schools still implement them conventionally without integrating mental and physical health components effectively. By reviewing ten relevant previous studies, the findings indicate that physical activities within extracurricular programs such as general sports, archery, and horseback riding positively contribute to students’ physical fitness, emotional regulation, self-confidence, social development, and stress reduction. Furthermore, extracurricular activities strengthen character development, improve learning focus, and promote a supportive environment for children's mental well-being. Nevertheless, program innovations are still required to ensure activities are more varied, meaningful, and responsive to current developmental needs. This study concludes that developing innovative and well-designed extracurricular programs is a strategic effort to enhance students’ mental and physical health sustainably.
